Happy Halloween

Wanted to share two songs for Halloween that I hope you will enjoy, which could get you in a spooky mood. The first is a duet of The Funeral March Piano Sonata No. 2 Op 35 by Fredric Chopin, arranged by Kevin Olson. The duet book is called Halloween Classics for Two by Hal Leonard. This is a great book for Intermediate Students who love "Classical Spooky Selection" as a duet. Hopefully, at some point, I can teach these songs to my students whether during October or anytime in the year.

Olson takes the main excerpt of Funeral March, adding another section of Chopin's piece. The duet implements various dynamics, rhythms and of course the slow tempo of the piece. If you're looking for a fun duet option with your students, please consider this song as an option. He includes other songs: The Sorcerors' Apprentice by Dukas, Toccata in D Minor and Fugue by Bach, Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky, and several more selections. This is a great book to implement year round.

This other song is called Spooky Spirits by Lee Evans, a song from Hal Leonard. I've had this music for a long time yet finally decided to learn it. Evan creates an original song that sounds like it's in the key of Gb minor, yet it's written in C with all the accidentals written in. This song delineated for a Later Intermediate, yet it could be taught by rote. The tempo is 50 bpm for a half note. This will be a fun song to teach at some point to my students, whether in October or not. His use of 16th notes gliding throughout the piano is fun to play.

Hope you have a safe and Happy Halloween. What are some piano songs you're teaching your students this year? Would like to know. Thanks for your support. Blessings.
