Jazz and Blues Piano Ideas
Several of my students want to learn Jazz and Blues music, and I found some ideas I already had that my students are really enjoying. Hope you enjoy these selections and perhaps be able to learn, perform, and teach your students.
The first one is called Blues on the Bayou duet by Jennifer Eklund. The one-page selection in G minor is a great way to introduce Blues to your students. They will love the simple, beginner Blues concepts where Jennifer utilizes an open G Chord of G in the Bass Clef and D above Middle C and a Middle C and D above Middle C as the majority of Bass Clef Chords. The student I'm teaching this selection loves to play it. Here is the link: https://pianopronto.com/sheet-music/piano-solos/blues-on-the-bayou/
Hoodwinked in D minor from Wendy Stevens is one I'm teaching and the student really likes this selection. The A Theme is great with a simple motif of a five-fingered scale from D-A with eighth notes in the Treble Clef. The B section moves all over the keys (my favorite part), with a breathtaking flow. Wendy explains on her website about Hoodwinked that she isn't certain who to trust and who the villain is. Here is the link:
The last song is Audacious which is exactly as it sounds, also from Wendy Stevens. This is a bold piece in the key of C Major, yet so many accidentals make the sound "cool". With an Alberti Bass Line, once the student learns it, then you can teach the melody in the Treble Clef. Her use of D minor, C Major, Eb Major, Db Major chords in the A section makes the song come alive. The B Section bounces around from the Treble to the Bass Clef, including grace notes, where she includes F Major 7th, E Major 7ths, and D minor 7ths, which is great for teaching students jazz chords.

What are you doing that your students are interested in? Would like to know. Thanks for your support. Blessings.
