Stepping Out of the Current by Wendy Stevens

For a few years, I've had a song called Stepping out of the Current, loosely based on works by Franz Liszt. Recently, I pulled it back out, convincing myself that I need to play this song, since I'm still trying as I can (while working and in life) to try Hungarian Rhapsody by Liszt. Stepping Out of the Current focuses on moving away from life's chaos towards a place of peace, tranquility, and separation from life's distractions.

The song uses 16th notes where six sounds occur in one beat, with the left hand reaching over the right hand to play notes above the ledger line of the Treble Clef. The movement of the A Section is very flowing and easy to play with the rhythms since it's based on patterns. The dynamics at the beginning are p, with a small part having a crescendo and decrescendo. The tempo is 100 bpm throughout the entire song. This portion of the song represents life getting out of control, yet leads to a B Section, where it's filled with peace, calmness and to play "freely". Wendy Stevens changes the dynamics, building from p to mf to pp. Plus her use of accidentals truly changes the pace of the song in the B Section. She returns to the A Section of the fast-paced life, yet slowly provides a ritardando at the end.

My goal is to provide "opportunities" for my students to learn materials that are a bit above them, as they prefer. Yet I need to provide "opportunities" to grow as a musician, performer, and educator. What are you learning that's giving you a chance to grow, blossom, and succeed? Would like to know. Thanks for your support. Blessings.
